About lip enhancement

The difference between hyaluronic acid fillers and the use of autologous dermal tissue, is the extent to which the results last. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body and is commonly used in treatments to reduce facial wrinkles and fine lines. Hyaluronic acid makes sure the skin is able to retain moisture, in fact this substance is even capable of holding up to a 1000 times its own weight in water. During the ageing process of the skin, the capacity to produce hyaluronic acid is significantly reduced. This contributes to sagging of the skin, ceases and a loss of volume. During this treatment, hyaluronic acid fillers are injected into the upper and/or lower lips, increasing the size and emphasizing the shape of the lips. Extensive research has shown that the use of this method is completely safe.

Dermal tissue implants on the other hand are an excellent option for patients looking for a more natural, and semi-permanent, form of lip enhancement. During this procedure dermal tissue is taken from another spot of the body and subsequently injected in the lips. The difficulty with regards of using this technique for lip enhancement procedures, is that the dermal tissue of the lip differs from the dermal tissue of most other parts of the body. The possibilities will hence be evaluated by Dr. Fantozzi during a non-committal consultation and he will discuss which would be the ideal method of treatment, always keeping your wishes in account.

Procedure and results

The procedure of lip enhancement with hyaluronic acid fillers is quick and can be completed within 5 minutes. When opted for lipo-filling this takes about 45 minutes. Both require virtually no down-time. The results of a lip enhancement treatment with hyaluronic acid fillers last approximately six months and follow-up treatments are available at our practice. Dermal tissue implants on the other hand are an excellent option for patients looking for a more natural, and semi-permanent, form of lip enhancement.

Aftercare

Both methods of lip enhancement are not very intrusive procedure and require virtually no downtime. Depending on the extent of the procedure, there might temporarily be some light swelling of the treated location. Dr. Fantozzi will explain all of this during the first consultation, so you will know exactly what to expect prior to the procedure. To secure the quality and results of the surgery, we will schedule an appointment for a check-up following the procedure. In order to further enhance the results, Clinic Fantozzi will also design a personal after-treatment course for each unique individual if desired.
